You want to know how to start a music career right?
I am once like you.
I am not a superstar today but I will give you some tips that will help you throughout your career.
Let me guess🤔
You write some lyrics and sing alone in the corner of your room.
You feel on top of the world when someone calls you a singer…
You imagine yourself singing in the studio…
I hope can get you right?
I am also a singer and I also have friends who sing as well.
So I should know how you feel.
I started singing at a very tender age.
You won’t believe how happy I am when I recorded my first song.
I was so passionate about music though I am paying more attention to my studies now.
Do you need to study music at the university before starting a music career?
Well, let’s go ahead. I will answer that question as you read along.
With so many years of experience as a singer, I now know what matters, the secrets and the do and don’t of starting a music career
- Know your unique talent
- Connect with other singers
- Practice often
- Find a mentor
- Be hardworking
- Promote your song
1. Know your unique talent
Talent makes the way
I repeat; talent makes the way.
If you have musical talent, the sky is your limit.
Well, music has many genres and talent differs. I hope you know that.
Some musician does well in rap while others are good at singing pop or reggae.
It is left to you to discover the area you are good at.
If your talent is reggae, go for it. Don’t try to be the jack of all trades. And you know; jack of all trades is a doer of none.
Now, how can you know your unique talent?
Well, that shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s all starts with self-examination, flashback to your mind, and think of the lyrics you wrote without stress. That could be the area you are good at.
Also, you can ask family and friends for their views on the aspect you if your freestyle they enjoy.
If you start a music career in a genre your talent is, your career will be much better.
2. Connect with other singers
Your network is your net worth.
You can’t grow in isolation. Mingle with other singers around you and learn from them.
You can go fast alone but you can’t go far along.
Try and attend other singers’ stand-up shows.
Try to network with them and urge them to invite you on stage in their next show.
3. Practice often
Practice makes perfect. Having talent is not enough. You need to practice, practice, and practice more.
Spend more time practicing to master the skills you need to succeed in your music career.
Try and enroll in a music class if possible
4. Find a mentor
Who are you trying to be like?
If you don’t have anyone you admired to be like, choose one.
Do you want to be like Beyonce or Rihanna?
Choose the person as a role model. Study his/her pattern, decision, lifestyle, and the reasons behind…
5. Be hard-working
People still believe in talent to the extent of overhyping it.
The truth of the matter is that; talent is great but nothing beats hard work.
If Beyonce and other great singers today are lazy, they won’t reach that level.
Be hard-working and don’t procrastinate, with time; everything you will get there.
6. Promote your song
This is part of the hard work I emphasis earlier.
Don’t be lazy, if you have recorded a song; start promoting it with any means you can imagine.
You can spend some money on promotion and I am assuring you that it worth it.
Some people specialized in music promotion, get in contact with them, and let them promote your song on your behalf.
Online is a big place to promote yourself but it is not the best place.
I have tried my best to show you those simple tips to start a music career.
By now, starting a career in music shouldn’t be a problem for you.
I hope you have gained new things?
If you will agree with me; Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and the likes are products of talent, hard-working, and practice.
If you have enough time and money to enroll in school and study music. Well, it is a win-win for you.
But if you don’t have enough money to sponsor yourself or someone to sponsor you throughout the university, fine…
I have helped you, I hope you know that? Please help others by sharing this post.
